Chin
Update
12/30/2006
Chin Homes In Need
has been going strong, rescuing chins from shelters and taking them
in from homes where they are no longer wanted. We often take in sick
chins that have not been cared for and have been on a bad diet. Plus,
chins that have just been left in a cage and ignored. It is our goal
to get these chins healthy and to give them lots of TLC so they can
have a nice healthy long life.
We are finally planning to update our site with current pics of our
foster chins for adoption and up to date articles about chin care and
health.
We currently have about thirty chins looking for homes. If you are interested
in adopting a chin just fill out our online adoption application by
clicking here and we will call
you as soon as we get your application.
We hold adoption events every Saturday at the Petco in Chino Hills from
noon to 4 pm. If you are interested in meeting some of our chins for
adoption just call us at 909-548-0034 so we can arrange to take them
to our adoption event.
In 2007 we would like to hold an adoption and education day just for
chins. If you are interested in attending please send an email to caroline@bunnybunch.org
so we can let you know when this will be.
As always we are looking for volunteers to help with transport from
the shelters, to help at our adoption events and to help fostering chins
until we find them homes.
About Us
We rescue
chinchillas from the shelters and take in owner surrenders, we also do
education on how to care for a chinchilla. All our male chins are neutered
so they can be paired up with other chins, as a chin living alone is a
sad life. We do not allow breeding of our chins due to over population.
We never turn away a chin in need so we need help to get the word out
about our foster chins to find them homes. Currently we have 30 chins
that are ready for new homes. Some are pairs, some are singles which will
need to go to live with another chin, and some are groups.
We have a new website in the works and hope to have it up and running
soon. In the meantime you can contact us at caroline@bunnybunch.org or
(909) 591-7200.
A
Happy Adoption Story
"I
thought I'd give you an update and let you know how the first night went.
I have to say that the cage you sold me is awesome, and so easy to put
together. Once we got it together we let the little guys out of the box
into the cage, they seemed very curious about their new home, running
up and down the ramps and checking everything out. They didn't seem too
stressed, which I was relieved about. They started eating hay and pellets
almost immediately and pooping up a storm! They also seem very curious
about me, I put my hand in the cage with a dried rose hip for each, the
little girl jumped into my hand and started climbing up my arm, she seems
to be a little less nervous than the baby boy, but he does like my hair.
So they're sleeping now, and seem to be getting somewhat comfortable.
I'm so happy I found you and I'm glad I went the "rescue" route
as opposed to buying from a breeder.
I've attached a couple of pictures. I still haven't come up with names
yet, but when I do I'll let you know. Thanks for the great work you're
doing!"
Chong
Chong
is a shy beige little guy who doesn't demand anything, but he really appreciates
attention and love. When he was brought to the Bunny Bunch you could tell
he had been in a cage too small with no exercise. He was literally biting
the hair off his hips for attention, and when you let him out of his cage
to play, he would just stand still, confused and tired after a few hops.
Now those patches have completely grown back, he has put on weight, learned
to hop all over his cage, run on an exercise wheel, and when you take
him out to play he likes to hop around as if he is taking a scenic tour
of the room. He has a deep voice for a chin, and when we first brought
him into his foster home, he would honk like a goose if he was scared.
He quickly
became accustomed to us and stopped honking, but when he realized we had
raisins to treat him with, he started saying hello by coming up to the
side of the cage and patiently sticking his nose between the bars, and
stay there perfectly still until you came to him. He has grown comfortable
enough that now he will take a raisin if we offer it to him in our open
palm, and even climb up on our laps during playtime. His ears look a little
tattered from a skin condition, but they do not seem to cause him any
trouble. He has also recently learned to enjoy being scratched under his
chin. Chong would love a wonderful loving home. Can you provide
that for him? Email Caroline
or call 909-591-7200.
Peekaboo
4/1/05

Peekaboo & his Mommy
Today we had a nice little surprise.
Peekaboo was born. Even though we do rescue and do not breed, we do take
in females that sometimes are pregnant.
Peekaboo was born from one of the female chins from our Carson shelter
rescue. Here is his picture at two days old. We will be posting up dates
as he grows.
Chin Rescue
2/10/05
Today we rescued five chins from a
high kill shelter. These chins came in from a collector. Fortunately there
were only seven chins. She had many dogs, birds and other animals. We
don't know the whole story, but we do know these animals were in bad conditions.
Out of the seven chins that came into
the shelter, two were adopted directly from the shelter. One died on it's
way to us, and four arrived in bad health, but alive.
They have been starved and mistreated.
Poor little skinny things, hair missing and very afraid. We will now give
around the clock care to get these chins healthy, and with time to get
them to trust us.
As soon as they have settled in their
pictures will be up under adoptions, but it could be a while until they
are ready for new homes.
If you ever hear of a chin in a shelter
please notify us straight away. Most shelters do not know how to care
for chins, plus they do not screen the people coming in to adopt, so they
may very well end up in bad homes.
These chins will have a happy ending,
and with your help many more can too.
